Natural catastrophes demand more sophisticated risk engineering programmes

South Africa has experienced a string of natural catastrophes (natcats) ranging from tornados, flash floods, freak hailstorms, deluge, drought and fires, with the last five years in particular racking up billions of rands in damages and insurance claims.

You may remember the house-build project that #YourIIG’s Class of 2017 was busy with earlier in July 2017, in collaboration with AMOR. Saturday, 4 November, saw two families receiving their keys to their first home ever in Botleng, Delmas in Mpumalanga.





IIB Update – Insurance Institute of Border

This year has been fast and furious. So much has happened on the insurance landscape. Kynsna fires, KZN storms and Gauteng hail. It’s a year where we have learnt some hard lessons about average, how fast and far a fire can spread and how we are at the whims of the changing weather patterns.



ILDP 2017

On the 8th and 9th of November, the ILDP (Insurance Leadership Development Programme) saw two days of final presentations before the long-awaited graduation. Judging the presentations, which focused on business improvement plans, were a panel consisting of #YourIIG President Gerald van Wyk, Deputy President Daniel Stevens and GIBS faculty members.

76th Annual Dinner

Thursday, 16 November 2017, witnessed the 76th IIG Annual Dinner – the largest insurance networking event in Africa where 1 660 delegates enjoyed the gala held at Sandton Convention Centre. This event ends the busy IIG calendar and celebrates the success of all stakeholders that made the year the success it was.


Decoding the DNA of an entrepreneur – 31 October 2017

IIG hosted its last Insights session for 2017 with an alternative theme “Hustler, Innovator, Visionary”, which attempted to delve into the minds and experiences of successful entrepreneurs in the insurance industry.
